Hoax in Everyday Life

I’m sure we’ve all experienced a time in our lives when somebody has tried scamming us. It is especially easier in modern day with all the technology we have access to. AI has also made it easier to trick people and make them believe things that aren’t true. There was one time, when I was about 12 years old, my parents kept receiving letters in the mail addressed to me, asking me to sign up for credit cards when there was no reason for me to have a credit card at that age. They thought that somebody was trying to steal my identity by using my information to sign up for credit cards. They ignored all the letters coming in the mail and eventually we stopped receiving them. It is so important to be careful of these types of scams because somebody could easily try and steal your information if you’re not careful.

Older people are also a huge target for scams. My grandma used to get calls of someone pretending to be my brother saying he was in jail and needed to be bailed out. My grandma did unfortunately fall for one of these but my mom then made sure to stay in touch with my grandma and tried to get her to tell her when this happens and to always double check with someone trusted.

Going off of the idea that the elderly community gets targeted quite a bit by scammers, I have a story about my family friends grandma. This past summer, my friends grandma received a call from a scamming website telling her there was a huge sale on gift cards at certain stores. It was around graduation season so she didn’t think anything of it. She went to these stores and purchased thousands of dollars worth of gift cards. The scammers had her stay on the phone with them and read them back the numbers on the card so they could then steal that money from her. It’s so scary how they do this.

Scams are really frightening, especially because they can happen to anyone. My grandma has actually experienced one, and it was a scary situation for her. It’s so important to stay informed and cautious to protect ourselves and our loved ones from these kinds of threats.

It’s so scary hearing about all these scams happening to grandmas! I think we all need to check in on our loved ones who are a bit older to see if they’ve recently been scammed and see how we can help them

Wow, the risks of scammers are seriously getting scary. I can’t imagine how frightening this is for the older generation that now is having to deal with this kind of thing, where as our generation is used to it. It’s even more scary how sometimes it’s hard to tell if something’s AI generated or not. What a scary world.
